Cette " Introduction à la théologie musulman " date de près de soixante ans. Lors de sa première publication, en 1948, elle était totalement novatrice, car, à l'époque, le domaine des textes dépouillés ici restait en grande partie confiné dans les écoles de sciences religieuses musulmanes. Le Père Anawati, grâce à ses contacts au Caire avec les professeurs de l'Université d'al-Azhar, a pu commencer à entrer dans la compréhension de leur contenu pour en faire ensuite l'analyse avec Louis Gardet. Beaucoup d'études en langues occidentales ont été publiées depuis, mais, curieusement, personne n'a encore repris l'ensemble du travail présenté ici pour l'enrichir et le compléter, ce qui serait pourtant souhaitable. Certaines synthèses imposantes ont été élaborées, mais nous ne trouvons pas encore de nouveau " manuel " comme celui-ci.
